What Are YOUR Basics of Photography? Share Them Here
Just what are the basics of photography? Do you really know? Clearly there are rules of photography, photography niches and genres, etc. But, to most photography enthusiasts, the ‘basics’ escapes us. Sometimes, we get lost in the “correctness” of photography. Many of us “accidently” bumped into the world of photography. While seeming exciting at first, our accidental meeting grows into passions. Photography does that to us. For many of us, photography allows us to “set our own rules” and assess ‘value’ based on our own criteria. Sometimes it is extra creative, other times it just is….. Rules, while good and necessary, often become barriers to our continued love affair with photography. Most of the time, we do this to ourselves – there’s so much information out there! Our enjoyment of photography is often personal and individual. However, it is always exciting and inviting to share our views on the world of photography. What One Photographer Had To Share About "Rules":Jay, a subscriber to my free amateur photography tips ezine, the “Best Amateur Photography Tips Digest,” shared the following view about the rules and basics of photography: When I first got a passion for photography (long before digital) you had to be very careful about your photos. With the cost of film and then developing you had to try and make each shot count. It could be very costly to shoot several rolls of film, have them developed and find you have 10 good shots, not to mention that you are back home or the event is over and you can't go back and reshoot. Now with digital you can shoot as much as you want. You can shoot the same shot in many different ways, zooming in and out, different angles, using the rules and even ignoring them. You can delete the obvious bad shots in the field to save memory space and review the rest when you can later enlarge them on your computer. It doesn't cost any more to shoot 1000 shots than it does to shoot 10 shots, so shooting away and experimenting will teach a photographer far more than just trying to adhere to a bunch of rules. Jay Thank you, Jay. I like your style and way of thinking. Thanks for sharing! Kalem
