Cici - The Pink Poodle

by Mark Bolles
(Loveland, Colorado)

Cici - the PINK poodle

Cici - the PINK poodle

Cici belongs to the owner of Zings Hair Salon in Boulder Colorado. The Humane Society helped pass a law to prevent the coloring of chicks and rabbits in an effort to stop vanity pets being given for Easter. The law was later expanded to include all animals.

Joy, the owner of Zings hair salon, claims to use beet juice or koolaide to dye her dog pink, which was to raise awareness of breast cancer. One of her neighbors complained and the Humane Society fined her $1000.00 for the offense.

It made news in the local area, so I contacted her to see if I could offer any publicity shots for free. She let me set up in her salon and I got off a number of shots.

She has 2 other poodles which are dark gray and black, so they do not benefit with the coloring like Cici does. Only speaking for myself, I saw 3 healthy happy dogs and saw no signs of abuse created by the coloring.

While this shot was free, it was also a valid conversation piece in my portfolio.
