Easy Online Photography Course Review - Proud Photography

In the beginning, I just wanted an easy online photography course. I wasn’t necessarily looking for “the easy way.” But, I don’t like over-complicated! So, my quest for a good and easy online photography course had me following (and believing) a lot of promises of “photographic greatness” from photography experts. It was fun! But, in the end, I didn’t learn that much. I learned how to do a few tricks that I already knew how to do – a little better. So, I would just go and purchase the next online photography course.

They have too much information about film in the course for my taste. I haven’t shot with film in over twenty-five years. Even Polaroid has gotten out of the film business.

There really are no “secrets that the pros don’t want us to know!” There are a lot of things about photography that we simply don’t know. But, it’s not because the pros don’t want us to know. Maybe I’m being ‘ticky’ with this one. But, I don’t like language that pits photographers against other photographers – in this case, the “us against the pros.” I understand it. I just don’t like it. And, language like that just isn't helpful when it's included in any easy online photography course, in my opinion.

This one is personal: At first, I was too sensitive to the constructive critiques that the course instructors made about my work. At the time, I thought that I was sending my ‘best’ to be reviewed. But, they always seemed to have something to say that I didn’t do correctly. (Actually, to be honest, they always offered very good suggestions, tips and techniques – but, my ‘oversensitivity’ heard them as ‘bad.’ The real truth is that I was just too insecure to accept constructive criticism.) Like I said earlier, you may find benefits to what I found as distracting – clearly I’ve got issues…………

One of the challenges that I had with learning photography on my own is that I didn’t learn the language used by photographers. So, when I was in the company of photographers that were speaking “photo speak,” I could keep up, but, I didn’t have the vocabulary to be able to adequately participate in discussions about photography. (Once again, this could have been due to my personal insecurity.) This easy online photography course corrected that. Now, I can engage in “photo speak” with the best of them. More importantly, I’m even better at the specific photography techniques and photography niches that the “photo speak” describes.

The course covers lighting tips and techniques in all situations, natural lighting, flash, low-light, combination natural/flash, etc. As far as I’m concerned, once you’ve learned how to control lighting in your photography work, you can produce any photo exactly the way you want it. I noticed that after I completed the lessons on lighting, I was able to ‘win’ the light battles in settings where my photo lighting was poor in the past. Now, I no longer have to guess how to control the light in my shots when there are shadows and harsh sunlight.

Their lessons are interactive. This was surprising to me. I’m not familiar with any other easy online photography course with such interactivity. It is obvious that the course was developed by photographers. They have very helpful homework assignments. Your assignments are critiqued by an instructor – this is where I initially had my feelings hurt regularly. After, getting over my tender feelings being hurt, I began to see the dramatic results of the critiques and suggestions that I received. They actually provide ‘personal tutors!’ And, they’re real people!
