My Rules of Photography by Jan Harrison, As I See It

My first rule is to always have my camera cleaned and ready.
After that it is if a scene makes me go 'wow' then it is probably going to turn out to be a good subject to photograph. For scenery, taking the time to really look at and feel the scene is very important.
I play around with the rule of thirds but often break that rule.
Light to me is very important and to make the most of it. One break of a rule is that often here in Scotland a midday shot can be really vivid, so it isn't always early morning and evening shots that work.
I often look for a different way to photograph a subject than I have seen it photographed before. For instance the lighthouse, footbridge and sand dunes at Lossimeouth in Scotland have been photographed so often, so look for another angle to them. Is there something on the lighthouse that maybe others have missed? Could it be photographed against different sky moods?
