Boudoir Props – Sexy Lingerie and Tradition

Sexy lingerie makes a significant contribution to good boudoir photography. It isn’t necessary. But, traditionally, sexy lingerie adds to the mood and content of the portrait work. Traditional lingerie is the kind of lingerie that almost all women already own. That is, almost always, a good thing when photographing boudoir portraits. For one, the woman being photographed is likely to already own several of these kinds of lingerie.

She knows that they fit her, and this contributes to her confidence when posing, especially in the beginning. Even though lingerie is typically associated with the bedroom; it works very well indoors, outdoors and in the studio.

Boudoir Props – Sexy Lingerie and Mixing Regular Clothes

To compensate for a small lingerie wardrobe, use the lingerie with other outfits that your model already owns. The possibilities can be limited to the imagination:

  • Coats
  • Robes
  • Jackets
  • Shirts
  • Raincoats

Boudoir Props – Sexy Lingerie and Jeans

An undisputable fact of life is that “everyone likes jeans and has at least a pair or two, maybe many more.” Jeans come in all colors, sizes and styles. Often, people don’t truly appreciate how sexy jeans can be (i.e. Daisy Dukes, shorts, cut-aways, etc). They make costuming simple for a boudoir portrait session. There are jean shorts, jean skirts, jean short-shorts, jean shirts, etc. Jeans can be down-and-dirty, or add a pair of heels for a dressy and classy look. Always stay alert for other pieces that will go well with jeans.

Boudoir Props – Your Imagination and Fabric as Sexy Lingerie

With a few pieces of fabric and a few safety pins or clothes pins, you can make your own costumes. Most fabrics can be used. The fabrics that have two different textured sides are very useful. Stretch polyester, for example, is black on one side, with a shiny, brightly colored pattern on the other. That gives you two possible costumes with one piece of fabric. Three yard (9 ft.) is plenty for these purposes. This type of fabric is available in a number of colors such as blue, purple, green and gold/silver. It is usually inexpensive. You don’t have to hem the fabric.

Be creative and imaginative with it. It is better worn without underwear (it tends to show panty lines due to its thinness and stretch).

Pieces of lace fabric are fun and easy to work with. You or your model may already have some pieces. Lace fabric is sometimes used in tablecloths and shawls. It can be made into a dress, a top, a negligee, or wrapped in dozens and dozens of ways. Lace can be a little revealing or used in double layers to conceal more. It usually looks very feminine and sexy no matter how it is used.

Then there’s cheesecloth. What is cheesecloth? It is a very fine, gauze- like material that is used in making cheese to remove the cheese from the fluid. It is also used in staining items and other projects. The material can be doubled or tripled by folding it over to make it as revealing or as modest as you would like. When it is used in single layers, it can be very sheer. The fabric easily sticks to the body when wet. It also becomes very clingy and sheer, even in multiple layers. It makes an inexpensive and very sexy costume. When finished, just fold it over a plastic hanger and allow it to dry. It can be used again and again.

Boudoir Props – Body Stockings as Sexy Lingerie

A body stocking is like pantyhose for the body. They are tight and stretch a lot. They are available in fishnet, sheer lace and many patterns and styles. They have various necklines. If posed well, body stockings are very flattering to a wide variety of sizes and figures. You can add other pieces to a body stocking, like a skirt or jeans or a jeans-skirt! Heels are always a good idea as they provide better shape to the calves, legs and butt.

Most body stockings come with an open crotch. While this may be very useful from a feminine personal hygience standpoint when wearing them out in public, it can cause photographic problems. If you want your photos to be less revealing, it is easy to sew the crotches closed. All of the big studios sew the crotches on their body stockings. With a bit of thread, a needle and a few minutes, nearly anyone can do it.

Body stockings are not very expensive. They can be purchased online at competitive prices. They usually come in one size to fit from about 95 to 165 pounds and in plus sizes as well. They do stretch quite a bit.

Be creative with posing with lingerie. You can make your own or you can purchase high quality sexy lingerie online. Building confidence in your model is critical during the sessions. Sexy lingerie goes a long way toward building that confidence. Try it!
