In this niche the photographer must be successful at getting the word out about who we are, at what we do and why we’re better than the ‘other’ photographer. | | Family Photography - Traditional families have changed and so have their expectations in family photography. There are families of three, families of sixty with three generations, extended families, ethnic families, single-parent families, and the list goes on. | Fashion Photography - Fashion photography is the glamour occupation of the profession. It is highly competitive and pays very well. The main market is advertising, but there are also editorial opportunities. | Freelance Photography - Although I strongly encourage focusing on your photography niche, to achieve the most success in selling your photography and getting new customers, freelance photography is still a strong attraction for many that enjoy taking all types of pictures. | | Nature/Wildlife Photography - Nature Wildlife Photography is a favorite specialization for photographers who are nature lovers, and there is a big editorial and advertising market for the subject matter. Nature magazines, travel magazines, wildlife picture books, calendars, textbooks, and reference books all come to mind. | Nude Photography - In my opinion, the image of a nude woman, any woman, is more than nakedness and body type. It is all of her. Nude photography, when done right, captures the layers of many of the sensuous pleasures of women. | Pet Photography - Pet Photography is another specialized business that is great fun for those who love animals and photography. It is an ideal sideline for the retail photographer who enjoys working with pets.Some photographers specialize in going from pet show to pet show. | | Portrait Photography - A good portrait reveals some aspect of the subject’s character, whether it’s a mood, a hint of laughter, or some other aspect of their personality. The skill to revealing this is in how you, the photographer, relate to and with the subject. | Stock Photography - Stock Photography is photography shot on speculation, in advance of being sold. Stock photography began as an outlet for the hundreds of thousands of photographs taken on assignment. | Studio Photographer - For you, as a studio photographer, clients form an opinion of your studio before they even step into your studio. | | Travel Photography - Travel photography is a favorite field for photographers who love to travel the world. Any photography that promotes travel through either an editorial piece or advertising can be considered part of this type of photography. An important element of this field of photography is an ability to shoot candids of people. | Wedding Photography - For creative wedding photographers, business is booming. Weddings are a billion dollar industry and wedding photography can be a very lucrative career. To be good, you have to work very hard. The rewards are very good. But, the work is very hard. For many photographers “wedding photography” is not worth the hassle and a lot of photographers will not shoot weddings for love nor money. Portrait Photography: More than just a pretty picture, good portraiture is highly desired. It's one of my favorites.
Amateur Photographer: Being an amateur photographer is no excuse for shoddy photography.
Boudoir Photography : By far, this is currently the most popular photography niche (according to the search engines on the internet such as Google, Yahoo and MSN Live). It is also a very misunderstood photography niche. To those with an appreciation for it, boudoir photography is a delicate art form.
Stock Photography This is the industry that so many photographers hear about but don't know how to take advantage of whatever opportunities are involved. Many photographers have thousands of images. Yet, don't know how or where to begin to find out how much the impages are worth; don't know where to begin to market them; don't know how much to sell them for; etc. This is a great link to start.
Nude Photography This is the second most popular photography niche. There is a distinct difference between nude photography and pornography. Unfortunately, many don't know that there is a difference. To begin with, you can find pornography all over the internet. Finding quality nude photography is much more difficult to find.
