| Stock photography should communicate message, involvement and human interaction. |
This series captures fire cadets standing for inspection and going off for classroom training. |
The series of the images conveys who the cadets are and who the trainers are. |
| These are fire cadets training to be firefighters. |
The location is Compton Community College in Compton, California. |
Human interaction and involvement is a necessary element in stock photography. |
| Getting these type shots without being disruptive is a valued skill. |
I saw them in formation. Grabbed my camera and started shooting. |
I tried different focal lengths of similar shots. For my taste, the tighter shots tell more. |
| Alone, the composition of this shot is poor. However, as part of a series, it is another perspective of involvement. |
Interaction is important in stock photography. |
While inspecting, the Fire Captain observes me taking pictures of the cadets. |
| Although this was an inspection activity, it is apparent that helpful instruction was also taking place. |
I like these next two shots. Those cadets with their hands at their sides - are being inspected. |
Hands behind the back means either they have been inspected or they're waiting their turn. |
| These images convey concepts such as diversity, urban adults, public safety, etc. |
I continued to look for and shoot human interaction. |
My efforts at being non-disruptive paid off. I was pleased with this sssion. |
| For all of the messages that these shots communicate, there are still unanswered questions. |
The stories continue. |
You can almost project into the future and see these cadets after years of experience. |
| Positioning myself was critical to get these shots. |
Inspection over, the cadets hurriedly go to class to continue their training. |
Concepts of teamwork, diversity, public safety, conditioning, heroes, etc. |
| One of the standard rules of stock photography is to always be ready to shoot. |
Another important rule is to know what criteria adds value to stock photos. |
And, of course, always ensure that your images are sharp and clear. |
